EPOS | SENNHEISER: A New Era

Sennheiser Communications is evolving, bringing with it a new fresh face in audio solutions and Nuvias UC are excited to be a part of the journey.

Demant A/S and Sennheiser Communications A/S announced an end to their joint venture in 2018 with the full brand evolution coming to fruition in 2020. The enterprise and gaming sections of the business will form their own independent company, EPOS.

EPOS – the Greek word ‘words’, ‘speech’ and ‘song’ – will continue the existing portfolio by Sennheiser Communications, while developing and launching their own branded products for the UC channel and gaming industry.

So how did we get here and who are EPOS?

We take a look back at more than 115 years of history and how we arrived at this exciting juncture in the brand’s evolution.

Hearing fit for a Queen

EPOS form part of The Demant Group portfolio – a group focused on offering healthcare solutions and services to people with hearing loss across 130 different countries around the world.

Founded in 1904, the company’s owner, Hans Demant, travelled to England from his home in Denmark in search of an aid to assist his wife’s hearing impairment.

His solution came in the form of one of the first electronic hearing aids – invented by Miller Reese Hutchinson – similar to that worn by the Danish born queen: Queen Alexandra of England.

Soon after his venture, Hans won a contract with the General Acoustic Company to begin selling his own hearing aids in Odense, Denmark.

Since then, the Demant Group have shown a relentless commitment to improving hearing and audio quality the world over.

A history of outstanding audio for UC

epos sennheiser timelineSennheiser Communications was established in 2003 as a joint venture between Sennheiser Electronic GmbH and William Demant Holding A/S, with a vision to make communication more dynamic and efficient. Their first series of business audio solutions was quick to follow.

The release of the SH300 and CC500 series quickly followed and introduced their patented Activeguard Technology, protecting the listener from unexpected and unwanted sounds.

2007 saw Sennheiser Communications introduce their first wireless Bluetooth office headset. Able to adapt to both mobile and desk phones, this offering paved the way for future wireless technology, not just with future Sennheiser products but influencing the direction of the industry as a whole.

From 2010, Unified Communications saw major changes in market trends with software-as-a service (SaaS) becoming a mainstay in offices. Applications such as Lync and Skype for Business became an integral part of the modern working environment. Sennheiser Communications adapted to this trend, adopting partnerships with many of the major players in this field including Microsoft and Cisco.

In 2014 Sennheiser Communications entered the meeting room space with the SP10 and SP20 speakerphone series, precursors to the latest model, the SP30 (available through Nuvias UC).

The MB660 headset was then launched in 2016 boasting adaptive ANC technology, allowing the user to adjust the level of external noise, minimising distraction and increasing productivity (available through Nuvias UC).

Demant and Sennheiser ended their joint venture in 2018 with the enterprise and gaming sections of the business, forming their own, independent company. From here they will develop new, own-brand products while continuing to offer the existing Sennheiser Communications portfolio.

2018 was also the beginning of the EPOS | SENNHEISER/ Nuvias UC partnership.

2019 saw EPOS Group A/S established and the new name being officially announced. Subsequent new products will be offered to the UC market featuring the new EPOS brand name, while still offering the same premium Sennheiser Communications portfolio.

A future in video

The future already looks bright for the new brand.

Having recently announced their entry into the video collaboration market later this year, EPOS | SENNHEISER’s all-in-one video and audio communication platform will offer the same premium level of quality and reliability that Sennheiser Communications were known for, while bringing an innovative new product to the UC market.

Once released, these products will be readily available through Nuvias UC’s Hub.

Helping the channel ADAPT

Nuvias UC are also pleased to announce the ADAPT series: a new range of wireless, Bluetooth headsets offering the channel a solution to help effectively collaborate in the modern, flexible, working environment.

Nuvias UC are at the forefront of EPOS | SENNHEISER’s new brand change, providing the channel with the latest products and updates as soon as they’re released.
